Some good Easter with family. Carson would not take the bunny ears off for anything.

usrs race #1
The first mountain bike race in this series was a lot of fun. It started with a good climb, then a pretty fast, long descent, then up again for the final mile or so. I thought the downhill part was the best- much like a rollercoaster. I liked it mainly because it was the only part of the race I pulled ahead of everyone. Once the final uphill came around, I got passed and passed. I hope it had something to do with the fact that I had a bad cold and did a ride on Thursday that I hadn't quite recovered from. Regardless, I know I need to train on uphills a whole lot harder. That being said, it was a very fun, very cold race and I ended up in second for the sport division.
It was fun to have my mom there and Malia, who I could hear her say, "Go Mama Go!"
I also had no cramping and felt pretty good nutrition wise. For breakfast I made a green smoothie( spinach, strawberry, coconut milk, oatmeal, peanut butter, carrots, banana, water) and had some honey before the race. I'm pretty sensitive to sugar and don't race with it much. I'm hoping my body will tap into the fat reserves for energy because that's why they're there!
I also had some good tips from Erica Tingey, who also mountain bikes and just turned Pro, so thanks Erica!!
Anyways, I would have liked to stay and watch the pros race but I had to get home to Morgan's soccer game which he won!

road ride

So I've been doing a bit of road riding lately and starting to get the hang of skinny tires. I've always worried about getting hit by a car and was flying down a road around 40 mph or so (?) finally letting my worries about cars subside. All of a sudden three deer jump out onto the road in front of me! In a total freaked out manner I let out a loud yell which, thankfully enough, startled them out of my way. I thought I looked retarded on a road bike, but that just sealed the deal.
Otherwise, my new adventures on a road bike have been fun. Although I much prefer a technical mountain downhill versus cars and the occasional deer. I'm sure I would have ended up like this guy.

Great Aunts
After watching Conference last week one of the speakers mentioned that we should "Behold your little Ones" not just watch them, but really behold them and strive to be like them in ways of innocence and love. I asked Carson how I could be more like a child and he replied, "Well, you have to play with toys more and chase leprechauns." This weekend we took the boys to the Imax theater with Abbie and Michael to see "Born to be Wild." Andy and Camille had the same idea and also took the boys to see another fun movie this week. So thanks guys! It was another week of gray gloomy weather and we needed out. Is it apparent yet that I am ready for summer?? The kids had spring break and it was cold and snowy the whole week and the kids were getting soo restless. When Malia got mad at Morgan she screamed, "Stop it you kidnapper!" and then, "Don't Mr. Rabbit!" My guess is that she doesn't know any mean words yet. Morgan and Carson are afraid of the Easter bunny so I think she might have been referring to that. When we laughed, she yelled, "It's not funny!!!" Which is never a good thing to say when you don't want people to laugh.
This week was a long spring break. We made peanut butter play dough, rollerbladed in the house :{ and climbed the walls. We also went to gramma's house for an Easter Egg hunt with all the cousins. Gramma made donuts (very rare) and Morgan helped. He couldn't stop laughing because they didn't have a donut cutter outer and were doing it by hand so they were very lumpy, tasty Lumpy Donuts.
They also had fun finding Easter eggs, in the snow.
I mentioned to Wes that I wish the sun would come out. His reply, (and why I love him) was, "It is out, it's just behind some clouds right now." so simple, so true. We were able to escape a bit and head up to snowbasin and hike up to No Name which was pretty nice for April. It was fun to get out with Wes for a day. He has a favorite new drink now, it's called Kombucha and it's a probiotic drink with no sugar. It's not cheap, but anything to get him off soda. For the kids, they get coconut water. And there's a random note for the day.

MOab, spring 2011
The mornings in Moab were a bit chilly but warmed up perfectly throughout the day. It was so fun for the kids to roam free with their cousins, catching lizards, playing in the sand, sitting in the hot tub and having one big slumber party! Malia often said when she was playing in the sand, " I love this, its so wonderful!" She was a trooper climbing about 3/4 of the way up to delicate arch all on her own. Carson couldn't wait to see the "Rock Rainbow" as he called it and was the first one up.
Heidi and Lance made fantastic breakfasts, and we had lots of fun on the Steelbender Trail. Wes is such a great driver, he is great at everything outdoorsy, which I have always loved about him. He makes everything look easy, and though I have no intentions of driving this stuff, he goes up it and might as well be yawning. The Ranger was also fun, if not funner. Its like a cadillac it's so smooth. We'd love to get a place in Moab and stock it with one of those.
Malia fell asleep on the trail and little Morgan held her head in place from all the jarring of the rocky ride. Then, sorrell got sleepy and he held her head also. He is the most compassionate child.
Linz and I went biking a bit, and I have really started to enjoy road riding. It still doesn't come close to mountain biking in terms of fun'ness, but I'll take riding a bike any day.
I am already looking forward to the next family trip to Moab, the kids loved it and we need to hit the big sand pit next time!
